PEMF Therapy in Apex NC

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) is a calming and energetic modality that can help people across a wide spectrum energize their bodies to enhance overall wellness and improve on all aspects of their health and wellness.

How Does PEMF Therapy Work?

The science behind PEMF is a well-studied practice (here's an example) that’s been around for more than a hundred years. It’s used by healthcare providers to diminish pain, stimulate immune support, improve physical and mental performance, and enhance brain function (as well as much more).

According to research from Yale Medical University from as far back as 1932, they discovered that the depletion of electrical energy from the body is the root cause of general poor health. PEMF, or pulsed electromagnetic field, is a source of energy that helps the body repair/regenerate/rebuild naturally, enhancing the functionality of the body's cells.

How Can Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy Help You?

Harold Saxton Burr (1889-1973), Professor at Yale University School of Medicine, researched the energy fields of organisms. He discovered that measurable imbalances in the electrical field of an organ come before the onset of pathology.  If the electrical imbalance is corrected, the disease does not present.  The application of PEMF can bring our cells back into electrical balance, restoring the body’s natural ability to deliver nutrients to stressed and damaged tissues.

Over the past 40 years, medical researchers all over the world have studied the effects of PEMF, conducting thousands of peer-reviewed studies. As a result of such research, in 1979 the FDA approved PEMF for use in stimulating bone growth; in 1987 for adjunct therapy to treat postoperative pain and edema; in 2004 for use as an adjunct to cervical fusion surgery; and in 2011 for treatment of depression in patients unresponsive to medication. PEMF is even used by NASA for reversing the bone loss and muscle degeneration experienced by astronauts on long space missions.

Imagine Your Body As A Battery

Imagine your body as a battery — daily stressors slowly drain your body of its energy to function at its best. By the end of the day, you’re mentally, physically, and emotionally drained. That’s where PEMF technology comes in! PEMF therapy is like re-energizing your internal battery. To function optimally the energy needs to be restored. Research and overwhelming anecdotal evidence confirms using Pulse technology will truly enhance your energy.

FAQs

Patients with an implanted electronic device, including: pacemaker, defibrillator, cochlear hearing device, spinal stimulator, etc. Patients were are pregnant, actively bleeding, hemorrhaging, or during heavy menstruation are advised not to have this therapy.

A typical session is approximately 20 minutes long, depending on the your condition and need. First, you will lay down on the therapy table. The PEMF will either work through the table itself, through one of the accessories, or a combination of the two. We will set the level for the pulses per second (PPS) and begin to turn up the magnetic field strength (MFS). We're looking for an intensity level of 6 - 7 out of 10, not "as much as you can take." The pulsing should be set to an overall comfortable level.

You may notice that the areas that need it the most seem to feel the pulses the strongest. For example, you're laying on the table, where your entire body has the opportunity to receive the pulse. However, the left chronic shoulder problem you have will tend to feel the pulsing with the most intensity. This is normal and means those areas are being helped.

Once you complete your main session, most patients will then go through a "cool down." This means we will turn on the system again at about 50% of the intensity of the first part of your session. This will help to minimize any negative symptoms that may occur following a session, especially fatigue or a "detoxing" feeling. You may not always need this cool down session, and that will be determined between you, your provider, and your experience after your PEMF sessions.

Most patients feel great! The decrease in pain and increase in energy is felt by most patients almost right away. The effect will last hours to days depending on the patient. The sessions do build on each other, so you will start to notice a cumulative effect where the good feeling lasts longer over time.

If you experience any negative effects, you'll notice those will also minimize after a few sessions. We will have some nutritional recommendations should you have any of those effects. Most common negative effect is feeling tired. This is due to the detoxing that can occur and won't last long for most people.

Most patients only feel great following PEMF sessions, but some patients may experience one or more of the following; oxidative stress, a temporary increase in pain, decreased blood pressure, a fall in blood sugar levels, fatigue on exertion, sleep disturbances, loss of energy or interest in day-to-day activities, dizziness and increased urination.

Many medical practitioners consider PEMF therapy as a generally safe and non-invasive technique. Most of the side effects disappear or decrease as the therapy progresses and the body becomes more and more accustomed to PEMF therapy. Most patients exhibit less side effects or adverse effects when nutritional supplements are administered before PEMF therapy is started.
